- is anyone interested in taking part in an international collaborative
graphic design project which will run for four weeks next semester from
Monday 28th January until Monday 25th February 2002.
I am looking for institutions who would be interested in taking part in this
project. I would expect that all of us who are engaged in the work will have
opportunities for international conference presentations and publications
arising out of our collaborations.
The intention behind the project is:
* to question students' use of computer mediated communication in
collaborative design group work and
* to investigate the benefits and problems involved in using ICT for
international educational collaboration.
To date two UK (Richmond and Southampton) and one US (Missouri) institution
are committing to the project.
The project is designed to give students experience in using ICT
while working as a design team with students from other institutions. I
would expect that all of us who are engaged in the work will have
opportunities for international conference presentations and publications
arising out of our collaborations.
The project requires:
* from five to around ten students from each university...
* who are taking a graphic design course in the Spring Semester....
* and will have access to computers running photoshop, illustrator and
a web browser.
The Project:
Teams of students, comprising one student from each of the
universities, will be set a graphic project with a four week deadline to
produce design solutions for a multi-national company's corporate id. The
brief will require each team to collaborate via Blackboard and hopefully
WebCT to
* gain approval for their proposal
* organise logistics and communication
* divide up individual responsibilities
* develop their final artwork.
The students will be asked to produce both design solutions to the brief and
also material illustrating the collaborative nature of their work.
Having said this everything is open for discussion. Please let me know if
you are interested in taking part in this project
