At its last AGM, members of MeCCSA voted for the Association to set up a
Women's Media Studies Network. The Network is now up and running and will
launch with a one-day event this autumn.
The Women's Media Studies Network is intended for all women researching and
teaching in media studies, film and media practice and production areas. It
aims to raise the profile of women in these disciplines and promote the
research women do. It also wants to create links with other women's
associations in the field and with relevant journals.
To discuss these aims further, launch the Network, and hopefully find a
good
acronym for it, MeCCSA is hosting a one-day event
at: Derby University
on: Wednesday, 12 September 2001.
Besides discussing how to develop the Network, the event will involve two
roundtable sessions:
Promoting Research: Fund-seeking and journal publication;
Research Work in Progress: current work in media and film studies; popular
culture and media practice.
Speakers already confirmed are: Cindy Carter, Christine Gledhill, Sonia
Livingstone, Karen Ross, Jackie Stacey and Jenny Wolmark.
The event will be free; delegates will pay only for refreshments on the day.
If
you would like to be sent further details of the day, please fill out the
form
below and send it to the vice-chair of MeCCSA:
