Call for papers: Practice-based doctorates in design, technology,
fine, applied, and creative art.
During the past few years, the concept of a practice-based doctorate
has become a central issue for graduate education in many European
nations. It is one of the most interesting - and hotly debated -
subjects in design, and in the creative and performing arts.
The journal Design Science and Technology will devote a special issue
to the theme of the practice-based doctorate. The issue is Vol. 10,
No. 1, to be published on 15 April 2002
Because many design schools are linked to art schools, and because
this discussion is so often linked to doctorates in the creative and
performing arts, this issue will discuss all these forms of
practice-based doctorate.
We will welcome proposals and full papers on such themes as:
The concept of the practice-based doctorate
Distinctions between practice-based doctorates and traditional doctorates
Studio, teaching, and research doctorates: differences and similarities.
Planning the practice-based curriculum.
Supervision for the practice-based doctorate.
Research training for the practice-based doctorate.
Method and methodology in doctoral education.
Doctorate by publication for the practice-based doctorate.
Research methods for practice-based research.
We welcome proposals for articles as well as completed papers. Please
