> FDTL 4 Art and Design Consultation on priorities
>
> The Fund for the Development and Teaching and Learning is soon to launch
> phase 4 of it's funding which includes all subjects reviewed in the last
> phase of QAA Subject Review.
>
> For examples of projects already funded in phases 1-3 see www.nct.ac.uk
> and for an edited selection of projects that relate to our subject areas
> see our web site at www.bton.ac.uk/adc-ltsn
>
> Cliff Allen, LTSN Programme Director, has said:
>
> "The objective is to try to relate FDTL 4 projects to the actual
> enhancement and improvement needs of the subjects. Previously FDTL funded
> projects did not always meet the key priorities of
> the subject. The aim is to try to embed practice and so if the projects
> which are funded relate to need there is a greater chance of achieving
> this.
>
> As you know FDTL relates to the QAA process - projects will only be
> funded in high scoring departments. In terms of need, HEFCE would like to
> see some relationship between the outcomes of the QAA reviews and the
> enhancement activity funded as well as the activity being closely aligned
> to the subject's needs/priorities.
>
> You are asked to produce a number of key priorities/needs for the
> disciplines recently reviewed by QAA. Please can these relate, if possible
> to the outcomes of the QAA reviews. You will also wish to try to gauge
> views within the disciplines about their perceptions of the key
> enhancement/improvement priorities in the light of the QAA reviews and
> other evidence.
>
> You may wish to focus on a limited number of needs to ensure that the
> funded
> projects have a focus and are not too disparate in nature and form."
>
> This is being sent to both GLADNET and ADC-LTSN JISCmail lists as well as
> to QAA subject reviewers and to as many heads of departments of Art and
> Design as possible.
>
> The task
> I am asking you to give us your comments by close of play Tuesday 1st May
> - I know this is a tight time frame but this is an important issue so I
> have produced a summary of issues from the subject overview report for Art
> and Design (available on the QAA web site at www.qaa.ac.uk) and from the
> report of the November 2000 conference of GLAD. Please feel free to add or
> comment on the priorities identified here:
>
