Hi everyone it is still not too late to send in a paper for this event.
This is the second call for papers and a notice of an event to be held in
Salford, UK
on 2nd and 3rd October 2001 on behalf of the CiB working group W084 -
Building Non-Handicapping Environments.
The theme of the event is "Designing for Inclusivity" and papers on
research in this area will be welcomed. 20 minutes will be allowed per paper
for presentation. Also new researchers are encouraged to do poster sessions
of their emerging research ideas. The research papers, poster summaries and
other deliverables from the meetings will be published and will also be made
available on the web.
There will also be key meetings of the Working Group and anyone interested
in this area of study are welcome to contribute to these meetings. The
objectives and scope of CiB WO84 are:
To examine the process of achieving non-handicapping, user friendly built
environments from research to implementation in every day practice, by:
understanding the cultural and political influences in each participating
country
identifying and investigating examples of good and bad practices
acting as a dynamic focal point for the exchange of knowledge and
experience.

Costs
This event is being sponsored by SURFACE who are covering the conference
fees.
However you will need to sort out your own travel and accommodation
arrangements. There are some reasonably priced hotels local to the
University (currently about 35 pounds sterling per night), details can
provided on a range of accommodation. We will make some arrangements to
transport people from the recommended hotels to the university campus and
the various events. We will need to establish exact numbers for catering
purposes and I would ask you to contact me as soon as possible if you intend
to join us at the event.
Optional events
On the Tuesday evening why not join us on a visit to try out the famous
curry mile and sample award winning Indian cuisine in Manchester (people
will be expected to pay for their own food and drinks bills).
Also, subject to interest levels, we are proposing to organise a study trip
to the new Commonwealth Stadium in Manchester that will be the main focus of
the 2002 games.
I would like to finalise the itinerary and allocate speakers time slots and
if you are interested in
either attending or contributing please contact the myself off line. I would
be grateful
if you could indicate the proposed title of your paper if you have not
already done so already and if you have any particular dietary requirements.
We will be providing a laptop and LCD projection system, slide projector and
overhead projector, but if there is anything else you need please let me
know. Also if there is anything that would help make the conference more
productive for you then again please ask for items such as large print,
Braille copies, induction loop etc. If you are presenting a paper then can I
have a copy by week commencing the 17th of September.
Also we are pleased to announce that UKiiD (UK Institute for Inclusive
Design) will be holding a regional open meeting on Thursday 4th October at
Salford starting at 2pm until 4pm on What is meant by Inclusive Design?
Anyone wanting to stay on for this I are welcome to do so and I will arrange
a tour in the morning of that day for those interested.
Additionally for anyone who is turning up on Monday 1st October and wants to
go for a meal I am arranging an informal get together simply let me know
your accommodation and time of arrival so I can co-ordinate things.
