Dear Rob
I would recommend the RNIB See it Right pack which covers a range of issues
regarding access to information, and includes Clear Print Guidelines.
Whilst not directly addressing the issue of shaded and coloured areas on
drawings, the guideline do outline a set of very simple principles to
achieving clarity in print, that would benefit anyone.

Subject: Colour-blindness
Dear list members,
A development control officer today broached a question regarding colour
blindness.
He deals a lot with high legal documentation from solicitors, land agents
and
the like and these documents have a proscribed set of colours for outlining
various aspects of plans and the like - red for 'budget' housing etc. As
these
documents are faxed around black and white is an obvious choice for good
contrast, with the possibility of different 'hatching' etc. for identifying
the
particular areas. Has anyone come across this, and has anyone any
suggestions
for a potential set of standards?
Rob
