Thought this might interest people on our list and apologies to those who
have already received this from other lists.
Also we are in the process of creating our own electronic bibliographic
database of references on accessibility and inclusive design in the built
environment. As soon as we have this in a decent enough shape to allow
others into it I will post instructions to the list on how to access it from
the web. It will allow people to search for material by keywords and
identify if a copy is kept in the SURFACE library or where else it may
reside. Also more importantly I want to include a summary or abstract of
each item so that a decision can be made by the enquirer of the system as to
the worth of obtaining a copy of the reference material. This is part of an
ongoing project that we have been working on for the past year to create a
unique inclusive design library that is based in an inclusively designed
environment library and open to all people. If anyone is interested in this
idea we would be glad of any input and are we working on this in conjunction
with the Centre for Accessible Environments (CAE).

Subject: New Rehabilitation Database Announced
The University at Buffalo Center for International
Rehabilitation Research Information and Exchange
(CIRRIE) is developing a bibliographic database
containing citations relating to rehabilitation
research conducted outside of the United States. The
database is free and available on the Internet at
http://cirrie.buffalo.edu.
Disability and rehabilitation research crosses many
disciplines. Relevant information is scattered across
many information resources. CIRRIE is collecting
citations from all areas of rehabilitation and
compiling them into one central source. In addition
to indexing from mainstream journals, CIRRIE includes
citations to resources not readily available to U.S.
researchers, as well as to full text publications on
the Internet. Abstracts are available for most
citations. The database is updated monthly. It
presently includes citations from 1996 to the present
and will eventually include citations from 1990 to the
present.
CIRRIE is funded by the National Institute for
Disability and Rehabilitation Research of the U.S.
Department of Education. Its mission is to facilitate
the exchange of information and expertise between
researchers in the United States and those in other
countries. We invite you to visit CIRRIE at
http://cirrie.buffalo.edu and use the database as well
as the other resources available on the site.
