spotted this in todays news:
I don't know much (anything) about japanese law but pressumably ignoring the
brief puts you in a weak legal position whereever you are in the world.

Builders sued over 'tall mod cons'
A petite pensioner has won £26,000 damages from builders who made her a new
house with features too tall.
She wanted the home in Japan specially built because she's only 4ft 5ins,
but the firm built it to standard dimensions.
The 69-year-old sued because she could hardly see over the sink, couldn't
see out of the windows or reach the cupboards.
The woman, who hasn't been named, took Shimizu House Corp, one of the
country's biggest house builders, to court.
"I was furious when they told me I should have sold the house," she said. "I
hope this ruling sends a message to other elderly people being forced to
struggle."
She gave the firm her own specifications for the new house in Kyoto.
She wanted most functions in the house to be within her limited reach,

Mainichi Shimbun newspaper.

(note: this newspaper also reports on its homepage that this week for the
first time the number of people over 65 in Japan is greater than the number
of those under the age of 15).
