Hi Roger,
While not for a moment condoning denial of access to buildings, we must
surely listen to conservation officers, who are the guardians of an
essential part of our cultural heritage.
Once a building has been altered it may not be possible to reinstate it. We
would not consider doing this to a painting or other work of art.
There are usually ways to be found to gain equal access and still maintain
the architectural or vernacular beauty of a building but I don't believe we
should expect to simply vandalise buildings in the name of equality - that
way the guillotine!!
