Caroline,
It's always been my understanding that the stereopsis depth perception test
is of value only for those FLTD's who work in large warehouses where they
would have to take stock off the 64th shelf and put it on the 37th - without
depth perception they would miss!
For those FLTD's who move things around on the ground, as they are only
operating on one level, depth shouldn't be a problem. As far as I'm aware
depth perception is not affected by working on nights.
Have you tried phoning Warrick Evans for technical information?

Subject: Fork lift truck drivers and stereopsis
Dear All,
I wonder whether you would be able to help on the subject of FLTD vision
testing. Recently I have been reviewing the interpretation of vision test
results and have noticed that the instruction manual which accompanys the
keystone machine states that people "whose occupations involve moving
machinery
or materials should for safety reasons, score in at least the lightly shaded
"Acceptable" area. This level indicates 75% stereopsis in the Shepherd-Fry
Scales."
As I understand this, this means the person has to get the first 4 symbols
correct.
Does this mean that FLTDrivers need to meet this standard and in particular
those who work on nights?
I note there is no reference to stereopsis in the HSE's "Safety In Working
with
Lift Trucks" 2000.
If you could let me know whether there are some of you who work by this
standard, I would be very grateful.
Thank-you
Caroline Bell.
