From New Member, Nancy Ellacott
Thank you for the information regarding my addition to the JISCMail
listing. I am currently working at Portsmouth University on a part
time basis as the Course Leader for the BSc(Hons) Occupational
Health pathway within the BSc/BA(Hons) Undergraduate
Framework. Professional background - 22years with the MOD, 15
years as the Civilian Chief Nursing Officer and Head of Profession
for some 400 civilian nursing staff in primary, secondary health care
and occupational health posts employed in military service units.
Since 1995, I have also been the Course Director for the MOD
Diploma (HE) OH/GP Nursing Studies, which was developed to
meet the needs of military and civilian nurses working in primary
care, but with an additional OH responsibility. Unfortunately, the
Diploma programme is under review and may not continue under its
present format.
I formally retired from the MOD in April 1999, and have been
involved with Portsmouth university since then, developing and now
running the new BSc(Hons)OH pathway. The programme is seen
primarily as a two year, part time, work based, top up degree, set
within a multi-disciplinary format, and designed to attract students
from all OH fields - Medical, Nursing, Health & Safety,
Environmental Health and Occupational Hygiene. This is the first
year of the programme, and numbers are low, but interest in the
programme is growing, especially from those students who wish to
undertake learning at a distance..
I look forward to joining the discussions and receiving information.
Thank you
Nancy Ellacott.
