Dear Jill
> Do any of you carry out home visits, and if so what are your protocols / procedures ?
Yes, I do, but only in cases where the individual is too weak to
travel or if they refuse to attend for an appointment repeatedly
because they are phobic about coming near work.
I charge the department double for these visits to allow for distance
& travel time.
> How do you report back to management and how do you deal with
confidentiality issues etc ?
I work to the principle for all management reports that managers and
personnel departments are best able to use the advice that helps them
to manage. ie they do not need to know diagnosis labels, specific
problems, as that just clouds the issues in my experience.
Examples of phrases I use are:
Fit to resume / continue work
Fit within the following restrictions to be reviewed in ------ weeks
/ months
Referred to Occupational Physician for:
- further specialist investigation
- consideration of retirement on the grounds of ill health
- please ensure (whichever) risk assessment has been carried out and
that safe working procedures are in place - indicates that the person
may need extra attention with that particular activity.
Hope this helps. For copies of my forms, please email me back.
Regards Lucy Kenyon
