I would welcome comments from colleagues involved in Heaf testing for
assessment of immunity to Tuberculosis.
Whilst we endeavour to bring clients back to clinic to read their skin test
and give a BCG if required, this is not always possible at the optimum 7 day
point.....we are a rural area providing services to healthcare staff
throughout 3 counties.
In circumstances where we cannot read the result ourselves, we provide the
client with a pictorial representation of typical test readings Grade 0-4,
as per the DOH "green book" Immunisation against Infectious Disease,
together with clear verbal & written guidance and ask them to return the
card to us for assessment of any action required. This process has been
discussed and approved by our Consultant in Respiratory Medicine
Due to a recent query I would welcome the opportunity to gain a consensus
from National colleagues.
Many thanks.
