NEWS RELEASE 29th November 2001
The Human Rights Act - Are You Vulnerable?
The current unprecedented awareness of human rights issues puts a great deal
of extra pressure on employers, healthcare professionals and administrators.
To provide some much needed guidance on this contentious subject, this month
's meeting of the Forest Occupational Health & Safety Group will feature a
major presentation by Dr Kenneth Gulleford a barrister and expert on the
Human Rights Act. The meeting takes place at 2.00pm on Tuesday 4th December
2001 at the Ashwells Sports and Country Club, Ashwells Road, Brentwood.
Dr Gulleford previewing his presentation said: "Human Rights were
certainly not invented by the Human Rights Act. Indeed, there are human
rights cases in English law dating back to mediaeval times. What the Act
has done is focus public attention on the subject to an unprecedented
degree. Nowhere is this evident than in the area of healthcare and, wise
professionals in the field, whether practitioners or administrators, will
need to have an active rather than a passive appreciation of human rights
issues".
The meetings are open to representatives from local businesses free of
charge. For further information about the meeting or about the Forest
Group itself, contact Margaret Steggle at the Group's Secretarial Business
Centre on 01992-814354.
The aims and objectives of the Forest Group are to improve standards in
occupational health and safety in industry and commerce. The Group believes
that the best way to achieve this is through training, seminars and
consultation with senior practitioners in the relevant specialisms affecting
the working environment.
