All the registrations can be done perfectly well on the coronal images
without problem. However, if you reslice your Talairach image coronally
then you need to be careful when determining the actual Talairach
coordinate (as opposed to the voxel coordinate).
For this reason we normally advise reslicing the images to axial first.
But, if you are careful with your final Talairach interpretation then
you
should be fine.
Also, reslicing the functional data from coronal to axial should involve
absolutely no change in intensities, and consequently no data loss. It
is just necessary to make sure the voxel dimensions change accordingly
(for instance 4x4x6 mm voxels might become 4x6x4 mm).
However, as I've said above, everything will also work with coronals if
you prefer.
