Taliban shoot down a B-52 Bomber, 2 helicopters
10 US soldiers held by Bin Laden
QUETTA: Taliban authorities on Friday confirmed that their soldiers had shot
down a B-52 bomber of the US-led forces in northern Afghanistan on Thursday and
two helicopters in Ghazni province in Southern Afghanistan.
Taliban sources said that they had taken into custody the wreckage of the downed
plane and helicopters. According to their claims so far they have gunned downed
two warplanes of US and three helicopters.
However, Pentagon did not confirm these reports. Pentagon sources said that only
one helicopter was crashed in Afghanistan because of weather conditions and four
crew members injured. Pentagon, however, claimed that they had rescued the
wounded crew while they themselves destroyed the crashed helicopter.
Meanwhile, according to a Kuwaiti newspaper, Al-Qaeda has confirmed that 10 US
soldiers are currently being held by Osama Bin Laden. These US soldiers were
reportedly arrested in the beginning of US attacks on Afghanistan last month.
Taliban soldiers also killed 40 supporters of ex-king Zahir Shah and arrested
three commanders, who were believed to be hanged in Kandahar on Friday. "Taliban
killed 40 pro-Zahir Shah fighters in fighting at Derawout in Tarinkot district
of Urazgan province on Thursday.
Three of the commanders have been arrested including Abdul Qadar Hamidi", said
Maulavi Najibullah. "I am not sure about the hanging of the three commanders on
Friday. They were to be hanged, but I have no information due to poor
communication with Kandahar", said the Afghan diplomat.
However, Taliban sources in Jalalabad said that three of the arrested commanders
have been executed in Kandahar by the Taliban soldiers in line with the fatwa
(religious decree) passed by the ulema in Kabul. The number of anti-Taliban
elements so far executed in different parts of Afghanistan have reached 14 since
the start of the US-led air strikes, as five loyalists of Gen.
Maulavi Najibullah said the pro-Zahir Shah commanders and fighters have set a
camp in the mountains in Urazgan province and had shifted huge quantity of
weapons for distribution among supporters to stage an uprising against the
Taliban. "We have captured 3500 small and heavy weapons and ammunition from
them", he said.
Meanwhile, 2000 more Pakistani tribesmen entered Afghanistan from Bajuar Agency
on Friday raising the number of Jihadis to 3000 plus to join Tlaiban in their
drive against the Northern Alliance.
