Yes there is an easier way, Blackboard could fix the bit of code that causes this problem.
There is a line of code that deliberately treats .pdf files differently from other file types, for no obvious reason!
We have brought this to the attention of anyone from Blackboard who will listen. Everyone has assured us that they will find out why .pdf's are treated in this way. No one has actually come up with an answer (which will come as no surprise to the Blackboard veterans out there!).
We are receiving regular complaints about this issue and our lack of answers is starting to make us look a bit silly.
We have tried repeatedly to get Blackboard Inc. to give us a patch or, failing that, an explanation that we can pass on to our users. The best we have had so far is an assurance from Halyna that 5.5 opens .pdf's in a separate window. Fine, but what other "features" are introduced by 5.5?
