Ben,
We are planning to upgrade from Bb Level 1 to Bb Level 2/3 during the first
week in January. Our Blackboard service is running on a Sun Solaris system.
Bb Level 1 utilises a MySQL database whereas Bb Level 2/3 will utilise an
Oracle database.
We have been informed that the migration of data from Bb Level 1 to Bb Level
2/3 must be carried out by Blackboard staff. We are currently making
arrangements with Blackboard staff in America to access our systems remotely
to carry out the migration. As far as I am aware Sheffield Hallam and
Kingston have followed a similar process.
I would advise contacting Blackboard urgently to clarify the situation
before making any commitments.
Regards,
Clive

Subject: upgrading from level 1 to 3
>>> hi all >>>
Has anyone upgraded from Bb level 1 to level 3?
We are about to do (over Xmas) and I have a specific, fairly obvious
question:
Is existing user and course data picked up automatically once
you instal level 3?
In other words, can you simply overwrite previous installation and
assume Bb will pick up existing course content and user information?
We are, of course, backing up all courses into archives. But I would
rather avoid having to manually import these if possible - it will be
_another_ very laborious task and certain things are lost - e.g. time of
discussion postings.
I should point out I can find no mention of this in the installation
documentation for level three ;-) There is info about migrating from
course info versions to Bb5 but nothing about moving up levels.
I hope someone can answer this seemingly simple question.
I know Bb staff are on this list - as I have received their auto replies
:-) Halyna....?
