Hi Judy
The model you are referring to is heavily reliant on input from the
departments and lists run from the central student records system. As
a template, it has proved extremely useful in providing information on
cohort progression through relatively small numbers of courses. It
has also proved useful in verifying data from the students records
system. However, it is very time consuming if used across a large
number of courses as it relies on the input of subtotals into an
array of cells in the template for each course. It is also heavily
reliant on knowledge about transfers in and out, and 'non standard'
progression. If you would like to discuss this particular template
further, perhaps you could e-mail me direct.
What I am interested in is the experience institutions have had in
trying to centralise the monitoring of student progression. Is there
any software that can simplify and automate the process so that it can
run across the hundreds of courses offered - possibly as a reporting
tool feeding directly from the student records system? Or is the whole
process destined to be primarily a manual exercise?
