At Tamworth, we're benefiting from being a member of the Consortium of
Staffordshire Colleges that has an ESF project for New Deal clients - it has
purchased a site licence for Learnwise for all of us so that we have a
common platform on which to run the learning materials. We've had training
sessions at Stoke (the lead college for this project) for admin and tutors.
Learnwise has been installed on our server.
We plan to use Learnwise for all students, not just New Deal, so we've run
demos for groups of staff on INSET days, having prepared some sample
cross-college materials first for them to try out (eg LRC induction). We
have had a generally positive response and it seems easy to use - fairly
intuitive. Unfortunately, it also crashed at 9.00 am on our last INSET day
and could not be revived, so we had to use the learnwise website to demo it!
Next step is to get some curriculum materials written - intending to use the
£7,200 NLN money to encourage staff to do so. Anything we do produce will
be available to be shared by the other Consortium members, as our respective
Principals agreed in principle that we should!

Subject: Learnwise
Hello all - in August we bought licences for the Granada VLE Learnwise.
Is there anyone else who has gone ahead and made a purchase? I'd like to
share ideas/learn from others about the intricacies of Learnwise - we
are just about to have our administrator and then tutor training, is
there anthing we should be aware of before we start fitting our
curriculum into Learnwise?
And also the more general area of how to implement a VLE - has anyone
been through the process and is willing to share the problems, pitfalls
and successes involved in rolling out such a new and radical way of
working with students?
