I think Angus makes a very important point. It would indeed be very
difficult to make a good case.
At present it seems to me we could sum up the situation as:
Various VLE products (with various pros and cons) exist
Some are more MLE than others, but nothing yet to be very excited about
Development of suitable materials remains beyond the means of most single
colleges
National developments are slow to appear and may be of doubtful quality (eg
lots of text and little interaction, etc)
If we simply wish to make Word/Powerpoint documents available we don't need
a VLE - our existing Intranets etc will work fine.

It would be interesting to know how many VLEs have been acquired, (or are
about to be), on the basis of thoroughly analysed information, data
processes and human resource needs that are further grounded on a full
business plan with actual business targets!

Well said Oleg!
I think it is vital to have a clear picture of WHAT you
trying to achieve in terms of your core business
(Education?) before starting to think about the other
processes, let alone product.
