The first play I didnt like it. His voice was terrible and he
seemed to be backed by a pub band. The second play started off
the same way but halfway through I had to go to the computer
to edit a poem, and from a distance the last four tracks sounded
a lot better. So I turned the volume right down for the third
play and it all started to come together. I could adjust to
his voice and make out a lot of the lyrics, and the band
sounded good. So for an encore just now I programmed
'Mississippi', 'Po' Boy', and 'Sugarbabe' which seemed
the most interesting tracks. It looks as though it is
a good album without being a great one. The accompanying
1960 track is brilliant and I am wondering if there is a
variant on the words on 'The Times...'. I will be playing
this album a lot over the next few days. It is a pity I
have lost access to the Web to get the lyrics from bobdylan.com
I bought the album for L11.99 in the cheap shop.
I also bought the Gjertrud Schnackenberg, which is her four
books of poetry in one bumper issue. Remarkable value.
Fifteen years ago I bought her first two books in the
reverse order and I will now read them in the correct
order when I tire of the Dylan. I also bought Graham
Robb's 'Rimbaud' and Patrick Howarth's 'Attila the Hun'.
In the pub I was discussing this designer universe we live
in and is there no other way to exclude G-d than by multiple
universes, which I find a little hard to take given that
every second must generate another enormous batch.
