I once participated in a real time online poetry reading ~ with an
international audience and "readers" from a variety of worlds! It took place
in a virtual irish pub in New York, as a moderated chat.
It was fascinating to be part of a real time unfolding of poetry online ~ as
each reader was introduced, the room virtually fell silent, there was a
slight pause in the interaction, then a slow but living unfolding word by
word of poetry. After the reading of each poem, the space was declared
"open" and there was often quite amazing and supportive discussion. The
readings were scheduled for the same time each fortnight ~ with GMT ensuring
real time participation!
