Fascinating reading list, Candice. Puts me in mind of one of those Scholes
Destry-Scholes index cards in A.S. Byatt's The Biographer's Tale. A book I
highly recommend as a meditation on matters of "literary authenticity" (as
well as useful, if indirect, commentary on ways systems of classification
handed down from Linneaus have conceptually bound intellectual and imaginary
pursuit). The vulgar and simpletonian category of "hoax" (i.e., Alberto
Caeiro and a fake computer virus as bearing some kind of ontological
selfsameness) would be a relevant example.
