Is Expeditionary Learning Outward Bound effective?
What the Research Shows
http://www.elob.org/evidence/index.html
Independent evaluation (several different studies) shows that
- it brings about significant improvements in student achievement
as measured by standardized tests and portfolios of student work;
- it changes instructional practices and school culture for the
better;
- it improves student attendance and parent participation; and
- it reduces the need for disciplinary actions.
I have just added this very tidy summary of research studies to
my growing collection of outdoor learning research on the web at
http://reviewing.co.uk/research/links.htm
Additions are always welcome! Do you have any research articles
or abstracts on the web?
