Another good source would be UNHCR, preferably a logistics department if
there is one) and Oxfam. The US Corps of Engineers is also involved with
providing temporary shelters. An alternative source would be one the
manufacturers who may be willing to provide some information. A quick search
found these sites: http://www.instantshelters.com/camp.html
http://www.shelter-systems.com/emergency.html

Subject: Question about temporary shelters: an market research
Dear Jiscmail Members,
I'm a student of the University of Twente from Holland and I'm doing some
market research on the topic temporary housing of victims of disasters and
refugees and IDP's for a Dutch Organisation. This because of the failure of
some nice designed temporary homes without knowing the market for this
product. There are of course many kind of shelter. From blue plastics,
sheets etc to prefab shelters.
I was wondering if there's someone who can give me some details, figures or
reports about the market for temporary housing of victims, refugees and
IDP's so I can answer sort of questions like these:
1. Which organisations buys (temporary) emergency shelters (name)?
2. Do these organisations specify the kind of temporary shelter, the
vendors, the productspecifications?
3. Which other parties got influence in the buying process?
4. What kind of emergency shelter do the buy and the volumes?
5. What are the minimal requirements?
6. What are important criteria for them and how important is every
criterion?
7. Which channels do they use to purchase it (local, international, etc)?
8 When do these organisations buy the different kind of temporary housing
9. What type of buydecision is it (new decision, rountine, semi-routine
10. How does the purchasement procurement look?
Hopefully you can help me with answering these questions or just give me
some other name or address of persons who know more about this topic or some
report, because without help my investigations could be very hard!
In advance many thanks.
Yours faithfully,
Onno van Denzen
