Having worked on two sites (Cononley Mine and Jamie Mine near
Appletreewick)both of which once had boilers i can understand the problems.
As a result of my research i came to the conclusion that it is next to
impossible to tell what sort of boiler was installed. The form of the boiler
is very diagnostic but once it has been removed there are very few clues.
The supporting walls and flues are not always built to specific patterns
being very much up the the installer. Therefore the boilers at Caphouse are
very litte help. I found information on textiles mills more useful and it is
possible to find many former boiler houses on mill sites with surviving
company records to confirm the type of boilers installed.
If you do manage to work it out the results would certainly be useful for
the interpretation of a wide range of industrial sites.
