Dear all
I've just been to the UKCC website, and read the speech which Jonathan
Asbridge (President of Shadow NMC) gave at the RCN conference last week, and
he raises several really valid points about the Draft Order.
Okay, his background is in nursing, and he was speaking to the RCN, but what
he said applies equally to midwives.
I wonder if anyone else has picked up the bit about the NMC Register being
made available to anyone who wants it (for a fee)? Mr Asbridge says 'Apart
from the fact that, with three largely female professions this would be a
green light for stalkers, the NMC would be bombarded with requests for the
register from commercial companies, and practitioners would be bombarded
with all manner of commercial and financial mailshots.........'
He says 'unfortunately, the draft toolbag contains some spurious,
ineffective and potentially expensive tools.' and ends his speech with a
plea for everyone to tell the Government what they think of the Draft
Orders, saying 'I would not have spoken out so clearly if I did not believe
the Government would listen'.
Go to the UKCC website (www.ukcc.org.uk) type 'shadow' in the search box,
and you'll find lots of interesting items to help with our response to the
Draft Orders, including the list of members of the Shadow NMC, and links to
Mr Asbridge's speech.
Regards
Ishbel
