Dear Vanora
Thanks for sending this and sorry I didn't see very much of you at the last
meeting. I really wasn't feeling very brilliant but fortunately found a
helpful taxi-driver who piled in me and my bike and took me home!
I have finalised the press release for the last awards with Sally and it is
attached. Don't know if you want to put it on the website but please do if
appropriate. I believe you have had the picture from Virginia so won't send
this unless you say so as it takes forever to transmit. The release and pic
have gone out to the various journals and 'Practisng Midwife' at least has
responded with a promise to include it.
Best wishes and hope to see you before too long. (On one or other of these
occasions we should award ourselves a proper lunch and NOT work through it,
just catch up with each other!)
Elizabeth

Subject: THE IOLANTHE MIDWIFERY TRUST AWARDS FOR 2002
> ANNOUNCING THE IOLANTHE MIDWIFERY TRUST AWARDS FOR 2002
>
> The Iolanthe Midwifery Trust is a registered charity that aims to promote
and
> improve the care of mothers, babies and families through awarding grants
and
> fellowships in support of midwifery education, practice and research. This
year
> we are offering the following awards:
>
> EDUCATION BURSARIES
> These bursaries are worth £1000 each and are awarded to individuals to
enable
> them to undertake a period of professional education to improve their
practice.
> Applicants must be able to demonstrate that the programme undertaken is
relevant
> to their current interests and will lead to improvements in care through
> practice, education or management studies. Four educational bursaries will
be
> awarded.
>
> GENERAL AWARDS
> These awards are made to individuals or groups wishing to embark upon a
project
> specifically designed to enhance the care of mothers, their babies or
their
> families or wishing to improve their practice by undertaking a specific
project
> or activity such as an educational visit within the UK or abroad.
>
> STUDENT BURSARIES
> Student bursaries are being offered for the first time in 2002 to
> pre-registration students seeking support for attendance at study days or
to
> undertake elective visits.
>
> BRITISH HOSPITAL MOTHERS AND BABIES BREAST FEEDING AWARD
> This award was made possible through a generous donation of funds from the
> Friends of the British Hospital for Mothers and Babies following its
closure in
> 1984. In recognition of the BHMB's international reputation in the
promotion of
> breast-feeding, the monies are used to finance an award focused on
practice in
> support of breast-feeding. It differs from other Iolanthe awards in that
it is
> used to reward achievement (good practice, education or management) rather
than
> to fund an educational course or project. This is the final year of the
BHMB
> award, worth £1300.
