The Transcultural Nursing and Healthcare Association, the
Research Centre for Transcultural Studies in Health,
Middlesex University in conjunction with the Foundation of
Nursing Studies, present their Conference
Health professionals have a responsibility to provide culturally
competent care, in a manner that demonstrates respect for the
race, religion, ethnicity or culture of all patients. This Conference
aims to:
explorethe concept of culturally competent healthcare
informhealth professionals of new developments in transcultural
care
provideexamples of good practice with regard to culturally
competent healthcare provision
promotecultural competence as everyone's business
examineways of improving the healthcare experience of minority
ethnic people
provideinsights into the role of non-traditional healthcare practices
addressissues in the development of a culturally competent
workforce in the NHS
Oral papers and poster presentations are invited. These
should address the following themes:
Policy and Service Development
Improving the experience of healthcare
Education/Research(including epidemiology)
Non traditional beliefs and systems in health care
(e.g. Chinese herbalism, Ayurvedic medicine, hakims, prayer)
Cancer& other life threatening illnesses
Abstracts should be typed, no longer than 150 words and
submitted attached to the application form overleaf. Successful
applicants will be offered a discount for the Conference fee. (Oral
presentation - 50% discount for one presenter, Posters 20%
discount)
