New Look for the NGfL www.ngfl.gov.uk <http://www.ngfl.gov.uk>
Links to over forty museums, galleries, libraries and archives have been
added to The National Grid for Learning. The portal has been redesigned,
enabling users to access educational resources more easily. The new features
include a section where well known personalities will share their three
favourite websites. The first celebrity is Lord Puttnam CBE, educationalist
and film producer.
The NGfL is aimed at people interested in education in the broadest sense.
It is not exclusively for teachers and this is reflected in the 'What's New'
section, which will direct users to sites that may interest them as children
or life long learners, for example. The 'What's New' section will be updated
regularly and will include news from the cultural sector.
The 'Museums and Galleries' section will continue to expand as more
organisations make educational resources available on the web.
By clicking on the map on the NGfL home page you can reach regional
'Learning Directories'. This is a new feature which will include links to
educational organisations, including museums and galleries, based in a
particular area of the country.
If your organisation has not yet registered their website, information and
the online application form can be found by clicking on the 'Link Your Site'
button on the NGfL home page.
I hope you will take a look at the new site. The design and functionality
will continue to develop in response to evaluation. The NGfL content team
are always interested in your comments, so if you have any feedback please
let me know. The portal can be found at www.ngfl.gov.uk

**** Also, Becta (the DfEE funded agency that manages the NGfL) has just
produced a CD Rom 'Making Web Sites Work' which has good practice examples
of school and FE sites and some tips on design more generally. It is
available free of charge - contact me if you would like one.
