Maggie,
Perhaps you would like to re-read my message.
If you do, you will see that I did NOT state that HAYS DX will only deliver
items to organisations which also happen to be HAYS customers.
What I DID say was that ONLY HAYS customers can use the HAYS service to send
items to other HAYS users.
This is correct, and was a direct response to the query from Durham which
asked if HAYS were in any way to be part of the inter-regional van transport
scheme network, thereby allowing libraries in other regions to send items
through their own van schemes to HAYS customers in the former LASER region.
This is not the case: HAYS will only deliver items sent by HAYS customers;
they cannot deliver items which have been despatched through regional van
transpost schemes.
This in no way contradicts the statement that HAYS are capable of
transporting items throughout the UK.

Louise, We've been using Hays DX for about a year now, sending books all
over the UK, & not wondering if they are Hays customers. As long as it says
'Library' on the address label they seem to arrive safely. [or are they all
going into a bottomless pit somewhere!?] Maggie Wheel

As the LASER inter-regional van service will no longer operate, items will
have to be sent to 'ex-LASER' libraries by post.
I have just phoned HAYS DX who have confirmed that this is the case. Only
organsations who are customers of HAYS DX can use their service to transport
items to other HAYS DX customers.
HAYS DX also informed me that there has been a hold-up in doing 'test-runs'
to member libraries, and in the delivery of the paperwork which libraries
will need to complete in order to despatch items.
So, it's fingers crossed for next Monday !

Could anyone explain, for those of us outside LASER, will this new firm
run the regional van system (ie can we still send items to you by van)? or
is is a courier, in which case we will have to post items to you.
Yours,
