PROJECTS DETAILS ----------------------------- [1] B.Tech Project (Aug 2000 to July 2001) Title Digitization tools for GIS Editor Project Guide Dr. S. V. Rao Assistant Professor Indian Institute Of Technology Guwahati Team Size 2 Partner's name Shailendra Singh Description GIS is a information system that collects, stores, manages, manipulates, queries & analyzes geographically related data.It allows visulstion of complex data in a easy-to-view graphical manner. It enables user to display complex data models in order to asses & evaluate environmental risks & business oppurtunities. The project provides software to store the spatial data (from images, maps) in GIS database through a front-end interface. GIS editor takes the scanned map and stores the various entities with their respective attributes in the database. For this data entry, automatic scanning can be done if the distinction between the entities is clear but while dealing with natural domains without precise boundaries we have to go for manual editing of spatial data. Usually the spatial data is of thousands of tera bytes and to handle this huge amount of data during processing on it would be a daunting task. Therefore, while implementing the tools for GIS editor various issues have been taken care of particularly storage of spatial data efficiently which includes data compression techniques. (It was done as a part of the project given to the institute by the ASSOM(India) Govt.) [2] Database Project (July 1999 to Nov. 1999) Title Development of a database in Oracle for a newspaper office involving multiple transactions. Project Guide Dr. S.Sridharan Assistant Professor Indian Institute Of Technology Guwahati Team Size 1 Description This project was a part of the course on databases. In this project I developed a database system for newspaper office in which I developed the administrator as well as the general user side of the interface. The administrator is allowed to update the information online in a fully secure manner. The general user is able to see the information from the current day till seven days back. The interfaces for the various columns of the newspaper is different. The front-end used was Developer 2000. [3] Operting Systems Project (July 1999 - November 1999) Title Implementation of Operating Systems Algorithms in the NACHOS OS ( ( from Duke University) simulator and finally development of the miniature OS over the virtual platform provided. Project Guide Prof. Gautum Barua Head of Dept. CSE Indian Institute Of Technology Guwahati Team Size 2 Description In this project we developed a miniature OS over the virtual platform provided. We started off with developing the basic OS primitives of scheduling processes, concurrency control and handling deadlocks. Then we went on to develop the basic memory management primitives and a file system. [4] Networks Project ( Jan 2000 - April 2000) Title Implementation of a few network algorithms in the Network Simulator NS ( from University Of California, Berkeley ) using Tcl-Tk. Project Guide Prof. Gautum Barua Head of Dept. CSE Indian Institute Of Technology Guwahati Team Size 1 Description In this project I worked on the NS network simulator and implemented and analyzed the basic networking primitives. The primitives were the data link layer point to point protocols, congestion control algorithms and a few routing algorithms [5] Software Programming Project (Jan 1999 - April 1999) Title Development of a database system in Ms-Access for course registration and grade records for a department in an university. Project Guide Dr.M.Satpathy Assistant Professor Indian Institute Of Technology Guwahati Team Size 1 Description In this project I developed an online course registration and a grade records system for a department in an University. The student is able to register for any course for any semester ( depending on his admission date which is kept in a separate database ) including backlogs. He could also view his grade card for all the semesters passed till now. The administrator had a different interface which included updating the database online as well as updating the course electives for each semester. [6] Graphics Project (July 2000 to Nov. 2000) Title Navigation in a room Project Guide Dr. S.V.Rao Assistant Professor Indian Institute Of Technology Guwahati Team Size 1 Description This project aims at the navigation in a room providing it light effects, texture maps for its interior. It was implemented using OpenGL libraries on Iris(Silicon Graphics) plateform. [7] Artificial Intelligence Project (July 2000 to Nov. 2000) Title Fuzzy Control of Stepper Motor Project Guide Dr. S.B.Nair Assistant Professor Indian Institute Of Technology Guwahati Team Size 2 Description This project aims to control the speed of stepper motor by implementing fuzzy logic. [8] Compiler Project (Jan 2000 to April 2000) Title Front end of a compiler Project Guide Dr. S.B.Nair Assistant Professor Indian Institute Of Technology Guwahati Team Size 1 Description Built the front end of a compiler (Lexical analyzer, Parser, Semantic analyzer, Intermediate Code generator) for a subset of C using flex, bison and C++.
