1. Temporary Part-Time Post in the History of Chinese Religions
Applications are invited for a temporary part-time teaching post in the
History of Chinese Religions within the Department of the Study of
Religions. The appointment, funded by the Leverhulme Trust, is to provide
replacement teaching for Professor Tim Barrett during the academic year
2001/2. The appointee will be expected to teach courses at both BA and MA
level.
The courses to be taught are:
History of Chinese Religion in Imperial Times (BA)
History of Religion in Imperial China (MA – former title: Heritage and Holy
History in China)
Applicants should have a proven record of teaching the history of Chinese
religions, and academic qualifications at an appropriate level. The
remuneration for this post is UK pounds 3520.

Temporary Part-time Post in Buddhist Studies
Applications are invited for a temporary part-time teaching post in Buddhist
Studies within the Department of the Study of Religions. This appointment is
to cover the research leave of Dr Tadeusz Skorupski during the academic year
2001/2. The appointee will be expected to teach courses at both BA and MA
level and to assist with supervision of research students.
The courses to be taught are:
A major survey course entitled ‘Buddhism: History and Doctrines’(MA level)
covering the Buddhist traditions in India and beyond.
A reading/translation class based on original sources from the Tibetan and
Sanskrit Vajrayana traditions for students with requisite language skills,
or a course on Buddhist Literature/Buddhist Scriptures.
Supervision of research students is to be agreed with the Research Tutor and
Head of Department.
Applicants should have a proven record of teaching Buddhist Studies and
academic qualifications at an appropriate level. The remuneration for this
post is UK Pounds 4500.
