Mantin. This is a small informal academic weekend with a ritual on the
Saturday.

2. Day at Glastonbury Somerset Sun 18th.
A more personal, open style of meeting. Ritual in Chalice Gardens and tea in
Rainbows End.

Carol Christ is a founder of and leading spokesperson for the growing
women's spirituality movement. Carol Christ's first book, Diving Deep and
Surfacing was groundbreaking in its exploration of women's writing as
spiritual quest. Her well-known article Why Women Need the Goddess has been
acknowledged as foundational in the development of feminist approaches to
the study and practice of religion. With the Jewish feminist theologian
Judith Plaskow, Carol Christ has edited two anthologies of feminist
religion: Womanspirit Rising and Weaving the Visions. These have both become
central texts for feminist studies of religion.

Carol Christ's latest book, Rebirth of the Goddess, is the first attempt to
present a systematic thealogy - reflections on the Sacred as Female.

This is Carol Christ's first major visit to England. She will be surveying
the thealogical, ethical and spiritual implications of her work and
providing opportunities for discussion. She will also be presenting a new
paper written especially for this conference which explores her latest
research.

REBIRTH OF THE GODDESS: A SPRING AWAKENING

10. 30  "A Serpentine Path to the Goddess"
 Carol talks about how she came to her own Rebirth of the Goddess.
"My grandmothers were both very devout Christians--one was an Irish Roman
Catholic devoted to Mary, the other a follower of the American Mary Baker
Eddy, my brother is a Mormon, and here I am"
followed by a Sharing Circle of reactions & personal journey stories.
11.30    "Trusting the Dark"
Carol will share the story of her journey into the darkness of the Dark
cave; discuss its implications for Goddess thealogy; and guide you on
journey into the dark. There will be plenty of time for sharing after the
journey.
12.15 Feedback circle on the morning.

  1.30   "Is Goddess Love?"
Carol will reflect on the philosophical implications of her mystical
experience that the Goddess is love, in light of the suffering that
continues to plague the earth, drawing on the insights of process
philosophy"
  2.30    "Ritual Arises from the Land"
Carol will share her view that ritual is not about the right way of 'casting
the circle' or 'calling the corners' or about being nude or clothed, but
rather is about a community's inseparable connection to place.

3.30     Preparation for the Ritual: gathering belongings, preparatory
meditation.
4.00    "Rebirth of the Goddess" (Chalice Well Gardens Ritual)
 Visit to the famous Gardens and a rite to invoke Spring renewal.
5.00   Shared Tea at the famous "Rainbow's End" (vegetarian café.)
£6 per person (ADVANCE BOOKING ONLY) home made soup, bread, choice of cake
and a drink -tea/coffee/fruit juice. More food available in addition.
