UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, San Diego. The Department of Structural
Engineering (www.structures.ucsd.edu) invites applications for a
position at the tenure-track Assistant Professor level. Promising
candidates should have a strong academic background and interest in
one or more of the following areas related to structural engineering:
1) marine/offshore structures assessment and design; 2) aircraft
mechanics and design; 3) computational structural mechanics and
analysis; 4) geotechnical engineering and
soil-foundation-structure-interaction; 5) advanced composite
manufacturing and application to structural systems; or 6) earthquake
engineering. Of particular interest are applicants who wish to pursue
research at the frontiers of design and construction, such as sensing
technologies, advanced materials, structural health monitoring and
control, lifecycle optimization of structural systems, model-based
simulation, and innovative visualization of manufacturing processes
and structural behavior. The overall innovation and promise of the
candidate's work are of higher priority than the specific research
area. The newly formed Department of Structural Engineering offers
undergraduate and graduate degrees in structural and aerospace
engineering, and emphasizes cross-disciplinary research in civil,
aerospace, mechanical, and marine structures. Major world-class
experimental facilities of the Charles Lee Powell Structural Research
Laboratories, and in numerical/computational research including
through the NSF funded San Diego Super Computer Center provide
significant opportunities for long-term interaction and synergy with
other researchers. The successful candidate must hold a doctorate or
equivalent degree and show evidence of high-quality research and
teaching. Level of appointment and salary will be commensurate with
qualifications within the UC published pay scales. Please provide
resume and names/addresses of 5 professional references to:
Prof. Frieder Seible, Chair
