An exciting and highly informative Beginning-level class on Marine
Mammals and the study of these fascinating creatures will be offered
this summer at the U.S.C. Wrigley Institute for Environmental Studies at
Santa Catalina Island.

This non-credit class will be taught by Professor Dennis Kelly of the
Orange Coast College Marine Science Department and the Director of the
Coastal Dolphin Survey Project.

The class will start June 24 and last until June 30, 2001. The class
will include lectures, lab studies, reading assignments, field trips
(ocean cruises and visits to other marine mammal sites on the island),
individual student projects, and much more. The class is for college
students and adults 18 years and older.

The cost of the class is $600 and does not include lodging, food, or
transportation to and from Los Angeles and the Southern California
Marine Institute in San Pedro Harbor (where the students and professor
will leave from June 24 (and return to June 30)by research vessel for
the short cruise to the marine lab). The cost does include lodging at
the marine lab (shared dorm rooms), all food, lectures, handouts,
transportation on Santa Catalina Island, lab activities, and research
cruise). Opportunities for snorkling, kayaking, and hiking are also
possible during the one week class.
