The Violence Research Programme announces the forthcoming:
OPEN DISCUSSION SEMINARS ON RESEARCHING VIOLENCE
Between October 2001 and February 2002, the ESRC's Violence
Research Programme is hosting an open discussion to share ideas
and creative approaches in capturing information on violence.
These seminars are intended as forums for the benefit of the
academic and wider research community. Five regional seminars
provide the opportunity to raise some of the key themes arising
from the 20 funded projects of the ESRC programme. At the same
time we are gathering information for inclusion in the updated
version of Taking Stock: What do we know about violence ?
originally published in 1998. Each regional meeting will be
organised using the same format. Professor Betsy Stanko, the
Director since 1997, will open the discussion by presenting some
of the overlapping issues flowing from the VRP's studies on
different forms of violence. Programme researchers will
expand on these issues by highlighting some of their own findings
from individual projects. The floor will open to discussions of the
work of participants. Throughout each seminar the objective is to
capture as much information about violence in many different
settings in the UK as possible.
As a participant you will be expected to supply a one-page
synopsis of your own work on violence. A directory of Violence
Research in the UK will be compiled from these contributions and
made available on the VRP's website. Those unable to attend are
welcome to submit summaries of research to the VRP no later
than the 15th of February 2002.
