Call for Papers:
Special Issue of Scientific Programming Journal Devoted to Grid Computing
Guest Editors : Carl Kesselman and Ewa Deelman
******************************************************************************
Grid computing has been steadily gaining acceptance as a feasible solution to
solving large-scale problems that require the sharing of geographically
distributed resources belonging to different organizations. Grids bring together
widely distributed storage systems, computing latforms, instrumentation, and
visualization engines. As such they have been used in a wide range of
applications such as large-scale cientific codes, distributed simulations,
tele-immersive environments, remote instrumentation control and visualization
etc.
The Grid has not only the potential to support a wide range of applications by
linking computers together but also to bring together data and nowledge
distributed among many organizations and people, thus answering many of the open
scientific questions. This vision of the Grid is hared among and has the support
of many governments in Europe, Japan and the US.
Although, many Grid technologies have been developed over the past few years,
the ultimate success of the Grid will depend on providing the bility to easily
develop and run grid applications. Thus, developing Grid technologies has become
a major effort which brings together esearchers in all areas of computer
science, such as high performance computing, distributed systems, networking,
security, operating ystems, information systems, databases, algorithms etc.
In light of the importance of the Grid computing environment, this special issue
of Scientific Programming journal (http://www.iospress.nl/) will be devoted to
the development and use of Grid tools and applications.
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
* Software environments and language support
* Application frameworks
* Grid component technology
* Software engineering development methodologies
* Debugging and performance tools
* Support for data intensive applications
* Applications and case studies
* Quality of service, resource reservation strategies
* Grid application performance
The schedule for this special issue is as follows:

All reviews back: June 15, 2001
All revisions back: August 1, 2001
Final notification: August 15, 2001
Publication date: Fall 2001
Authors should follow the Information for Authors at
http://www.iospress.nl/site/navfr/authcofr.html. An electronic copy of the
