Special Session Proposal for the 2001 MLA Convention, Dec. 27-30, New
Orleans, LA
Resistance, Multiculturalism, and the Gothic
The Gothic has long been associated with critiques of and resistance
to Western modes of rationalism. This proposed special session seeks
to explore contemporary critical rearticulations of Gothicism by
examining the ways that literary multiculturalism is informed by, and
makes use, of the subversive politics associated with the Gothic.
Papers on any area of 19th or 20th century literary multiculturalism
are welcome.
