Dear Nadine, I sent a similar question to Lis-link back in December; I
only had two replies, one of them from you!
The librarian at Thanet Campus, Canterbury Christ Church University
College said at the time they had 2 DVD players, one in a group study
room ,one for use with headphones but didn't specify what make of
player.
DVDs in cases are displayed on open shelves but in individual security
cases which are removed on issue. They have not experienced any real
problems.
I haven't done much more about investigating for our library, we are
going to greatly increase the number of student PCs for the next
academic year. These will have DVD playback facility so that will solve
the problem initially.
Even our Media Production Dept. do not have DVD players yet so they
could not advise me!
I'm hoping to go to LIS in Birmingham in June to investigate
storage/security of all types of media including DVDs. We have a big
problem with theft/damage.
I'll be interested to hear if you get any replies.
regards,
Jenny
