We have a large number of lantern slides of nineteenth images for which we
have no negatives or other prints from which to take copies.
The condition of many of them is rather poor, or rather grubby from dust etc
having got between the glass plates.
We would like to treat these before they deteriorate further and with a view
to scanning. Does any one know of recommended conservators who specialises
or at least has experience in conserving this kind of material?
I have tried the Conservation Register, but can only get an answerphone.
As a matter on interest, is the image developed directly onto one of the
glass plates, or is it encapsulated between them
