Personally, I like to think of IT people as wireheads

Subject: Geeks v Archivists
I don't want to start a Friday thing but after recent discussions with my
husband Andy after the debate on the list on professional perceptions I
thought
I'd post.
Andy argues that compared to people working in ICT archivists have nothing
to
complain about. People in ICT are routinely called geeks or nerds in the
media
(although I think they do fuel this!), described as relating better to
computers than people, having poor social skills and equally bad dress sense
and, of course, can only relate to each other. Similarly, people working in
scientific fields are known as "boffins."
That said, as an archivist married to a geek can there be any hope for our
image, should we avoid having children and is anyone else in a worse
situation?
