Dear Simon and all colleagues
The problem is that Whitbread have sold off their breweries and are in the
process of selling off their pubs - the new Whitbread will have nothing to
connect them with their past except for the name and I expect that will be
changed as well.
The Whitbread archive has a lot of pub memorabilia, - ashtrays, signs,
mirrors, jugs, etc, but it is difficult to see how these can be used for
marketing the current and future Whitbread of leisure centres and modern
hotel chains - particularly when so many of the items held by the archive
were actually produced by regional breweries. I think what is going to
happen to the records is much more worrying - particularly the core set of
18th century Whitbread ledgers, etc.
