The Mining Heritage Society of Ireland recently received this query via its
web site. We have no immediate leads to suggest, but wonder if anybody on
the mining history list might have any suggestions.
Thanks in advance,
John Morris.
-----------------------------------------------------
My late father in law [JAMES McNALLY] was a miner in his youth.
He was born and brought up in the Motherwell area of Lanark, Scotland but
always considered himself as Irish and connected to Tyrone &/or Antrim.
Bernard, James, William, Francis McNally were their names. They were miners
there as well. Also Textile and Steel work both for the men and ladies.
His family emigrated [from Motherwell] to the mid-west/Illinois, USA in the
1915-1925 time period. They worked in USA Mines - maybe in the Stonington
area?
He said that they were minority RC's and had to fight to practice their
religion.
They were soccer players, pugilists & probably Irish Republicans.
With these leads, do you have some suggestions on how I can get more
information about them?
I know that this is a long shot...but worth a try.
Thanks,
Walt Kahnle
