Dear all

Some time ago I asked for comments on the Lihnn web site and promised that
I'd do a digest of the comments. Many thanks to all those who took the time
and trouble to respond. All comments received were discussed at the last
meeting of the Web / IT Group and informed the up-coming revision of the site.

Here are the responses

**************************************************************************
Just one comment at the moment - I'm a bit concerned that messages which
ought to be posted to the LIHNN list are being put on the website instead.
I think it's a waste of my time to be continually checking the website -
once a day is not enough if important/urgent messages are being posted
there. What's wrong with email?
*************************************************************************
I think the web site should be purely Lihnn driven, but I can only put up
information on the web when I receive it. At the moment I am only getting
the statutory minutes etc. Any other odd titbits I ferret out myself. I
am, as I am sure everyone else is, sick of me reminding them about the web
site. Any prompting from the Web group would be greatly appreciated.
************************************************************************
Just a quick initial response as I actually found some spare time to look
at it!
I discovered that you can request books from the HCLU staff library online.
This is great, however there is just a list of the books held - as it is
the regional staff library perhaps a searchable facility would be more
progressive!! Ha! Ha! Anyway it's good to see what they've got. As a quick
reaction - the website seems predominantly HCLU information giving at the
moment, however is that a bad thing? Do we as LIHNN have the dedicated
time that staff at HCLU will have to keep the site up to date anyway? I
found the minutes of meetings really useful to find out what was going on.
At the end of the day it can only improve communication - as long as we
remember to check it!
*****************************************************************************
I visit the lihnn site most days - sometimes more than once a day.I like
the layout.
I want it to be LIHNN driven where possible but recognise that HCLU have an
important role to play as well. I think we can go some way towards
achieving the former by making sure that we all contribute to the contents
by sending in our reports, minutes, news items etc. I think it will be a
gradual process.
The obvious links are probably already covered elsewhere but things like
book suppliers, British Library / BMA Library, LA Jobnet as well as NeLH
etc....
I would like to see a proforma training course application form rather than
the current instruction to use cut and paste. Or am I just nit picking ...?
Re the Union list..How do I go about making sure that
 a) all the CMHT libraries are listed together :
                        CMHT: Jefferson
                        CMHT: Royal Eye Hospital
                        CMHT: St Mary's Hospital
                        (CMHT: School of Physio)
b) I have an entry somewhere. People have complained to me that
they can't find my contact details since I am not based in any of
the CMHT libraries but have a separate office / phone number /
email address.
I did raise this with MG some time back but since I haven't seen
the trial version of the Union list and directory I don't know if it has
been acted upon.

Can't think of anything else at the moment....
*******************************************************************
Having read your e-mail concerning the Lihnn Website I would like to make
these comments.
The site is currently HCLU dominated in every sense - there needs to be a
lot more info about LIHNN issues. HCLU issues/information are important -
they have a very important role to play - but there is more to LIHNN than
HCLU.
I can't say that I look at the site every day as I don't always have time.
However, I am probably missing some things as I believe they don't stay on
there very long.
I would also like to see links to the Websites of HIgher Education
Insitutions which play a part in LIHNN.

**************************************************************************
Generally I like the look and arrangement of the website - it looks very
professional and is easy to navigate.
I check the news page daily as I have it set as my homepage but I don't
always have time to check other sections of the website for new minutes,
reports, etc. Perhaps new items could be flagged on the news page?
The only thing I've found slightly annoying is that the news items and
minutes, for example, don't seem to be in any order of date, etc. It's
often difficult to immediately spot which items have been added since I
last looked.

***************************************************************************
I think it would be very good to have a 'maps' section where everyone can
go and pull off directions to all the hospitals of the North West and
Merseyside areas when they are going to meetings etc.

It would also be better if information was just a 'click' away i.e. for
training events we should just be able to click from training and go
straight to nformation about it without going through the reports section,
which seems overly omplicated.

A complete list of Lihnn members (with linking e-mail addresses) could also
be useful, although I know it is intended to have something similar from
the journals list.

Just a few thoughts that have come into my head about the site.
Basically I think you are all doing a good job, keep up the good work!
**********************************************************************
It's looking good, I think we should give consideration to the time and
effort involved in keeping the information current, if it takes off (and it
only will if people can be bothered to contribute)
The only problem I have had is downloading the map to Warrington. That is
likely to be a problem my end.

Yes (I do look at the site but only)usually when I am specifically looking
for information rather than updating myself about what is new as I haven't
the time.
(driven by LIHNN or HECLU?) Doesn't matter, both have lots to offer
( HECLU means of communication?) Not at all, if it does it will be down to
the apathy of the LIHNN folk. I sense some HCLU bashing in the comment
about ADITUS - perhaps it would be more constructive to drop the moaning.
There is no way to please all of the people all of the time a middle line
approach has to be taken, don't we do that ourselves in our service
provision. Even the best of services will have some users who are
dissatisfied because they don't get exactly what they
want but we cater for the majority.
(What else do you want there?)Examples of good practice.
(ideas that are actively of use)Again examples of good practice.
It may be worth investigating a way of alerting users to new information as
it is posted.

************************************************************************
By 'eck this was a bit radical like! Anyway in answer
Reasonable start, some time lag between information being made available
and it being posted (i.e. the liverpool patch group stuff seems to have got
lost somewhere and I'm sending it again and more damaging the Co-ordinating
Committee details are out of date ). Structure seems to work if a little
irritating to browse, but once you know your way around it's ok. Search
feature on reports a little over fussy i.e. don't find the stuff you know
is there unless you search the right bit but the general search option
works much better (Keywords is there a thesaurus? Help files for
searching?). I know this is a case of people in glass houses....but some
of the spelling's as good as mine (shurely not! check out the national
calander of training eventss!)

(Do you look at the site?)
Daily but only 'cos I've made it a home page for one of our PCs. Not
certain how realistic it is to expect everyone to do this as local
intranets etc. may be more appropriate depending on local circumstances.
Like the idea of going into the news bit first but structure requires work
(i.e. most recent stuff at the top please!).

(driven by LIHNN or HECLU?)
Reality is HCLU news will dominate because LIHNN members don't send stuff
in (I'm as guilty as anyone else of this) and as central webmistress there
will be times when the pressures of other work will delay publication of
anything. Trouble is someone dedicated to doing it suffers from the same
problem...maintains editorial control and standards but not conducive to
fast moving information (mind you that could be too much of tha anarchist
in me!)

(just a HECLU means of communication? )
It is a concern that site becomes perceived that way, can't see an easy way
round it. Anonymous whinge wall type thing might aid communication with
HCLU from LIHNN membership but is this technically feasible (i.e. can you
do it in a way that isn't logged where people are sure it can't be checked
by HCLU). Poll feature of yahoo groups might be an answer too.

(What else do you want there?)
Directory details type of thing handy too if you can get people to do it!

(ideas that are actively of use) I'll put a list of faves together!
