The Centre for International Developments in Community Justice
(CIDcj) presents a Day Conference
'International Developments in Community Justice'
on Thursday 28th February 2002
at the Hilton Hotel, Sheffield
10.30 am - 4.00 pm
Cost £85
The conference will be chaired by Sir Graham Smith CBE, Chair of
the Centre for Crime and Justice Studies, and Chair of the
Penological Committee of the Council of Europe
Speakers include:
Hilary Benn, MP Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State,
Department for International Development
and
Rosemary Shapiro, Consultant, formerly Director of Development,
NICRO South Africa (to be confirmed)
The conference will include workshops on key themes and will help
to launch CIDcj as a virtual Centre for networking and information
exchange. CIDcj aims to support world-wide developments in
community provision for offenders and in resettlement from
custody. In particular the conference will:
a.. explore the economic and social context in which offender
services are offered
b.. explore the development of community penalties in the
context of international economic and political agendas
c.. extend knowledge and networks about the provision of such
services
d.. develop information networks between providers, partners and
funders
e.. launch the Virtual Centre to support such developments
