Further to David's email, I was a bit surprised to read the Independent
Report. I thought that the papers of living authors could not be purchased
using HLF money. Are scientists somehow different in this from artists?

It was par for the course that this excellent piece of news got reported in
the Independent on 6 December 2001 as
' Archives of scientist who discovered DNA to be displayed in Britain after
£2m deal'
The journalist concerned then went on to state that "The entire scientific
archive was to be put on public view in London after it was bought by the
Wellcome Trust charity for nearly £2m"
We have a long way to go with an awful lot of journalists to explain the
difference between public access and display. By the way did anyone contact
the Indie with a correction ?
