We are currently preparing to use our new student record system as from the
start of next session. We are currently looking at the issue of how we
should give students feedback on their assessments throughout the year. Our
system will have the ability to store individual component marks
(coursework, practicals etc) which make up modules and to release these
details over the web /intranet to the individual students as and when we
wish but we are concerned about the conflict between giving feedback and
releasing marks before they have been confirmed by a board of examiners. Is
it sufficient to place a warning that such marks are subject to confirmation
/ review by the Board of Examiners or are we leaving ourselves open to
problems / lengthy disputes when, say, a set of marks has to be "normalised"
because it is completely out of step with marks from other options taken by
other students on the same programme? I would be grateful for any advice /
information as to how others tackle this problem.
Thanks
