Social Policy & Society: First Issue, Themed Section
Apologies for Cross-Posting - this is a follow-up to Tony Maltby's recent
message
Dear Colleagues,
You will probably have seen the announcements of the new Social Policy
Association journal, 'Social Policy and Society' on the SPA website and in the
last issue of the Newsletter. This message is to remind you that the themed
section of the first issue will deal with "Social Democracy and Welfare", and
to invite contributions to it: contributions on more general social policy
issues will of course be dealt with by the general editor, Tony Maltby.
Topics in the themed section will include: recent international developments,
the conceptual issues raised by new definitions of social democracy, the issues
raised by a social democratic commitment to tolerance and the claims of
minorities and social movements, current policy issues and the constraints on
social democratic welfare policies resulting from globalisation and from
associated social and economic developments. Enlargement of the EU also raises
issues about opportunities for the advance of social democratic policies within
the European project. Since the issue will be appearing early in 2002,
contributors may also want to consider issues related to the UK general
election.
On the practical side, the word limit for all articles will be around 4000
words. Contributions will need to be finalised by the beginning of September so
that the submission deadline will be the end of June to permit refereeing.
There will also be book reviews and review articles sections linked to the
theme of each issue. The managing editor is Tony Maltby, Department of Social
Policy and Social Work, The University of Birmingham, B15 2TT, UK, to whom
contributions and correspondence for the journal as a whole should be sent.
Full details are on the SPA web pages at:
http://www.york.ac.uk/depts/spsw/spa/news.htm. However, please do send
suggestions or material for the themed section on Social Democracy and Social
Policy directly to me at the address below. I look forward to receiving your
papers and comments,
Peter
